VeriCoin is binary blockchain protocol which offers two digital assets on a single blockchain: VeriCoin, the digital currency, and Verium, the digital reserve. This enables currency exchange transactions that are fast and inexpensive (powered by a Proof-of-Stake-Time consensus) while also providing stability and secure storage of value (powered by a Proof-of-Work-Time consensus). These two chains have different blocks and consensuses but have the same addresses, wallets, and exchange. VertiCoin transaction fees are low, but Verium has higher transaction fees to incentivize miners to do work. Mining is ASIC (custom mining hardware) and GPU resistant and instead focuses on allowing CPU miners to power transactions.
VeriCoin (VRC) is the digital currency of the VeriCoin blockchain that can be sent peer-to-peer between users and staked to power the network.
