SpreadCoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and blockchain with a completely decentralized setup (since their motto is “Decentralize Everything”). Built using the Bitcoin Core code, the SpreadCoin blockchain limits the centralization of the mining and confirming of transactions through preventing the creation of mining pools that collect hashing power. SpreadCoin created their own custom hashing algorithm, called SpreadX11, which builds upon the existing X11 code to introduce the anti-centralization features. Transaction sizes are reduced in order to reduce the blockchain size. A “vanity generator” feature in the SpreadCoin wallet lets users generate personalized payment addresses to make it easier for senders to identify recipients.
SpreadCoin (SPR) is the digital coin that can be sent peer-to-peer and mined over the SpreadCoin network, with block rewards gradually decreasing over time.
