SONM (an abbreviation for Supercomputer Organized by Network Mining) is a decentralized network of nodes taking part in what is called “fog computing” (a process in which massive amounts of computing tasks are done by a very large amount of end-user devices). Anything from website hosting and video rendering to DNA analysis can be done on the SONM network. There are various layers in the network: Whisper (for peer-to-peer communication between nodes), BtSync (for data transfer), Docker Container (for parallelism and compatibility), Fog computing (the actual computation layer), and Ethereum smart contracts (for transparency). Nodes can sell their computational power on the SONM marketplace’s Application Pool.
SONM (SNM) is the Ethereum token that is used to buy and sell computational power on the SONM market.
