FoldingCoin is a cryptocurrency mining network that helps power Stanford University’s Folding@home platform for research into curing cancer and other diseases. Users are rewarded for essentially mining medicine and not cryptography hashes (“Mine Medicine, Not Hashes”). Other businesses and projects can also use the FoldingCoin framework to distribute rewards to users, whether it be for temporary promotions or permanent rewards and loyalty programs. The Counterparty platform is used to power the token side of the platform, since only Counterparty tokens can be distributed using FoldingCoin. The developer team is very transparent about how and where they spend funds through the use of public excel documents.
FoldingCoin (FLDC) is the primary Counterparty token that users are rewarded in for mining on the Folding@home network through the FoldingCoin platform.
