Feathercoin is an open-source cryptocurrency and blockchain which adds various improvements to the Bitcoin and Litecoin code base. As a Bitcoin fork, Feathercoin uses a Proof-of-Work consensus to secure transactions over its network. Feathercoin aims to continually add and experiment with new features such as shorter block times. The Feathercoin blockchain is ASIC (custom mining hardware) resistant, meaning that the nodes that mine blocks (and the subsequent block rewards) are more fairly distributed to create a more decentralized network. However, there is a degree of centralization due to the Advanced Checkpointing feature, which secures the network from the destructive effect that usually accompanies a hard fork.
Feathercoin (FTC) is the digital coin of the Feathercoin blockchain that can be fairly mined and sent peer-to-peer over the network.
