Aion (called “The Third Generation Blockchain Network”) is a multi-layer blockchain platform that aims to solve the issues of scalability, privacy, and interoperability that many blockchain networks currently face. The Aion protocol implements a high-performance bridging mechanism to bring various blockchain networks together through inter-communication in a multi-tier hub-and-spoke model. This can be done even if the blockchains are dissimilar. Communication consists of both data and value transfer between these blockchains. The decentralized Aion network is used to send communications as transactions while also incentivizing communication. The Aion virtual machine will address scalability issues by allowing decentralized applications to be interoperable.
Aion (AION) tokens, first existing as Ethereum tokens and then being converted to native AION coins, are used to power the various functions of Aion.
